Action: Antihysteric, antimicrobial, antibacterial, antirheumatic, anti-arthritic, antiseptic, depurative, digestive, emmenagogue, insecticidal, astringent, cordial, decongestant, stomachic
Benefits, Indications: Used to repel insects, especially fleas in dogs and cats. Used for lung congestion and pain from infections, coughs, colds, asthmatic bronchitis (1-2 drops steam inhalation), massage for painful menstruation cramps, headaches, nervous disturbance.
Chemical Constituents: Pulegone, menthone, iso-menthone and neomenthone
Companion Oils: Citronella, geranium, lavender, rosemary, sage
Precautions: Pennyroyal oil should not be used in aromatherapy and even in small doses produces acute liver and lung damage. Pennyroyal oil is a toxin and abortifacient (due to the pulegone content) and if ingested in large doses, pennyroyal oil can cause death.
