ADHD Help

whk67_234x350Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder or ADHD affects 3-5% of all children. It is often misdiagnosed and treatment plans are not always effective.

The condition is frustrating for the child, the parent and the rest of the family. Teachers, physicians and other health care professionals become frustrated, as well. To achieve the best results, everyone in the child’s environment needs to work together.

If your child has ADHD, he or she needs your help, guidance and understanding. I know from personal experience how difficult it is to raise a child with ADHD. My goal here on this site is to help you, the parent, learn about the condition and understand the treatment options, including available and safe natural adhd treatment.

Symptoms of ADHD

The most common symptoms of ADHD are impulsiveness, hyperactivity and inattention. But, your child might not have all of these behavioral problems. Some kids are primarily hyperactive. Others get sidetracked easily, become bored or daydream, when they should be learning a new skill.

behavioral characteristicsImpulsive behaviors are sometimes difficult to identify. All of us act without thinking, sometimes. That’s one reason that ADHD is difficult to diagnose. The that accompany the condition are present in everyone, from time to time.

But, when a child’s impulsivity, hyperactivity or inability to concentrate begins to affect his performance at school or his relationship with family and friends, then professional help is needed. That does not necessarily mean that they require medication. Sometimes, doctors and parents quickly turn to prescription medications, without first considering all of their options.

Natural ADHD Treatment Options

You need to remember that the stimulant drugs that are used to treat ADHD are not a “cure”. In some cases, they help. In others, they create more problems. We tried the drugs, but even at the lowest dosage, my normally happy son came home from school in tears, every single day. Some kids simply cannot tolerate any stimulant, no matter how low the dosage.

A more holistic approach, treating the “whole” child using natural ADHD treatment, worked for us. Numerous studies have shown that medication alone is not the most effective treatment plan. It may be a quick and easy solution, but there are no “magic pills”.

Many factors may play a role in your child’s behavioral problems. Diet is often part of the problem. Too much sugar, artificial colors and preservatives increase irritability, hyperactivity and impulsivity. Good nutrition is of the utmost importance. Kids need to eat right and take a good multi-vitamin, as well as an omega-3 or fish oil supplement.

182922SDCCMYK35_600x600If your child is hyperactive in school, change your routine. Get up early in the morning. Go for a brisk walk or run before school. Get him involved in an organized sport, karate or other physical activity that will help him or her “burn-off” some of that restless energy.

Try natural herbal remedies for ADHD such as BrightSpark before you turn to prescription medication. It has always seemed illogical to me to give a child stimulants. But, there are many herbs and botanical extracts that are “soothing”.

Additional ADHD Treatment Options

Hyoscyamus
Known to reduce restlessness and over-excitability, this homeopathic remedy showed positive results in a controlled study conducted in 1997. In general, the plant extract reduces outbursts, fidgeting and hyperactive behaviors.

Tuberculinum
This homeopathic remedy is traditionally recommended for those who need constant stimulation or change, in other words, for those who get “bored” easily. It is also beneficial for the relief of irritability, destructive behaviors and feelings of discontent.

Arsen iod
This extract promotes balance, reduces temperamental outbursts or temper tantrums. It also tends to reduce frustration that can occur when learning new skills.

Verta alb
Used to soothe the nerves, verta alb is often recommended by homeopaths for hyperactive children.

Now, all of these solutions must be properly prepared according to the Homeopathic Pharmacopoeia and you should only purchase the remedy from a reliable manufacturer.

We have had a great deal of success with the products from Native Remedies. They are carefully prepared in registered facilities and meet with FDA approval.

All of their products are backed by a one year, unconditional money back guarantee. The prices are reasonable and the quality is unquestionable.

  2. Epsom salt baths can be a highly effective way to treat symptoms of ADD and ADHD. Studies have suggested that both conditions are commonly caused a magnesium deficiency within the body. Magnesium is essential to many of necessary daily enzyme reactions that occur in our bodies. The problem is that magnesium is one of the most difficult substances for the body to absorb. However, soaking in an epsom salt bath for 20-30 minutes a day has been shown to increase magnesium levels in the blood stream through transdermal osmosis.

After many failed attempts at trying prescription drugs to help my daughter’s ADHD I did the research above and discovered that epsom salt might work. It was worth a try. We tried a few varieties but found that pepsom sports a spearmint scented brand of epsom salt works best for her. The scent and warm bath are soothing and it helps to calm her down before bedtime. It is 100% natural, cheap (around $3) and works much better than the other more expensive avenues we tried in the past.

  3. Thank you for the info…I have a friend whose son is severely adhd. and because I suffer from it myself, I feel for her son more than anyone cuz it can be sooo difficult for him because most people just don’t have patience or want to truly understand what people go thru who suffer from it.

  4. I am doing much research on it. It seems that you do not have enough dopamine, serotonin, norephinephrine, gaba and one more. To elevate these levels you can NOT just take these. they dont cross the blood brain barrier, but if you take amino acids that are pre cursors of these neurochemicals…..then they cross the blood brain barrier. very confusing. Do a search on serotonin and SDD or ADHD. I found that taking a supplement called L5htp and a few others are supposed to help because they are natural and change intoserotonin in the body. Vitamin b 6 along with zinc and other vitamins and minerals help to change over to the neurotransmitters that we need. Just look up the traits that you have with low serotonin, low dopamine, low norephinephrine, and low GABA. then look up all with too much of a level. some times an individual has one that’s too low and one thats too high or just right. all these medicines can not fit every case. that’s why they done work for the most part. they dont fix the problem, just mask it.

  5. My niece has ADHD.  She is a teenager now.  Her mother has had an extremely difficult time keeping her ADHD under control over the years.  My niece has even been very violent at times in her very young years.  I presume that it was due to the ADHD.  She has been on numerous prescription medications for this disease in the past, but only seemed to make her like a Zombie.  She was unable to function normally in school or the rest of society because of it.  Now, you here so much about the side effects of different prescription drugs that people have been taking for years.  It is on the TV every single day………attorney’s trying to find people that have taken these different medications that are now experiencing serious ramifications from taking those medications.  I just do not trust prescription medications and continually try to tell people I know to try other options.  There is a lot less risk to your health, if you do not take so many different prescribed medications for your ailments.  Not to mention, the cost now is absolutely through the roof.  I just wish I had known about this ADHD remedy years ago.  It may have saved my sister-in-law a lot of grief.I am currently licensed as a nurse, but still feel that the best way to treat yourself is through the natural approach to medicine.  In my opinion, it is a much healthier avenue to stroll down.  I have been practicing the natural approach to various ailments on myself for several years now, and WOW, what a difference it has made.  I am just a firm believer in Natural Medicine and truly hope that I can convert as many people as I possibly can to believe in the same thing.

    • Hi Jennifer,

My son has a similar story and I will tell you, if it weren’t for Focus Formula and PureCalm I am not sure I would have survived his childhood. He is now a successful college student and I am SO grateful that I researched natural remedies for him!

Thank you so much for your story!
