Benefits, Indications: Mainly used for its digestive properties. It has also been known to aid with kidney and bladder ailments. Amenorrhea, arthritis, cellulitis, cystitis, frigidity, griping pains, dyspepsia, rheumatism, toxic build-up. It is wonderful for digestive disorders and can relieve colic, flatulence, dyspepsia and bad breath.
It is one of the ingredients in “gripe water†which is a liquid mixture designed to reduce a baby’s upset, colicky tummy. Parsley can be used as a tonic for the uterus, aiding in labor. It can also increase menstrual flow or bring on a late period; and because of this, should not be used by pregnant women, lest it encourage early labor or miscarriage.
Parsley is helpful with cystitis and urinary infections and can be used in a douche to cleanse the area. It has a diuretic effect and can reduce the stagnation of edema, cellulitis and puffy joints.
Chemical Constituents: Apiol, myristicin, tetramethoxyally-benzene, pinene
Companion Oils: Anise, bay, black pepper, clary sage, coriander, ginger, neroli, oakmoss, rose, tea tree, ylang ylang
Precautions: Not for internal use. Avoid while pregnant. May cause skin irritation. Parsely seed essential oil is moderately toxic and irritant – myristicin has been shown to have toxic properties, and apiol has been shown to have irritant properties; otherwise non-sensitizing. Use in moderation.
