- Scent: The aroma shares some similarity to that of Myrrh Oil. It is deep, resinous and woody.
Action: Antiseptic, antispasmodic, expectorant, fragrance fixative.
Benefits, Indications: Aromatherapy uses of Opopanax have been suggested to be similar to myrrh essential oil. Opoponax has muscle relaxing properties. Due to its drying action is effective against excessive mucous in the lungs. Recommended in cases of bronchitis, colds, sore throats, and coughs.
In biblical times, opopanax was applied for minor wounds, but has since fallen out of disuse medicinally. The essential oil is also used as a fixative in perfumery.
Chemical Constituents: (E)-b-ocimene, (z)-a-bisabolene, a-santalene, (E)-b-bergamotene, a-Bergamotene, germacrene D, decanol
