Action: Antidepressant, calmative, aphrodisiac, analgesic, detoxifier, aromatic, antiseptic
Benefits, Indications: Primarily used in perfumery (particularly Oriental-floral scents). Gardenia essential oil is used in aromatherapy, and as a scent in lotions, candles and other products. It is considered to have calming, antidepressant / uplifting qualities, and be good for headaches or dizziness.
A few drops of gardenia added to a bath are thought to be beneficial for insomnia. Gardenia is also considered useful in wound healing – in addition to being considered antibacterial, it has been reported hemostatic – able to assist stopping bleeding when applied (diluted)
. Chemical Constituents: Benzyl acetate, phenyl acetate, linalool, linalyl acetate, terpineol, methyl anthranilate
Companion Oils: Cinnamon leaf, citrus oils, clove bud, jasmine, neroli, rose otto, tuberose, ylang ylang
Precautions: No known contraindications, but care should be taken as with all oils.
