- Scent: Flaxseed oil smells much like melted butter.
- Consistency: Thick
- Absorption/Feel: Leaves a very oily feeling on skin.
- Color: Pale Yellow to Golden Yellow to Medium/Dark Yellow
- Shelf Life: Minimum 2 years with proper storage conditions (cool, out of direct sunlight). However, other experts maintain it goes rancid quickly with a shelf life of about 6 months and refrigeration is required.
Action: Emollient, astringent, anti-inflammatory, antirheumatic, antiseptic, antihypertensive, antidiabetic
Benefits: Flaxseed oil is high in essential fatty acids, vitamin E , vitamin B and minerals. It contains the alpha-linoleic acids (ALAs) which may contribute to younger looking skin. High concentration of Omega-3 essential fatty acids. Internally flax seed oil is said to lower cholesterol and help improve heart health. Externally, it is useful for oily skin, acne, rosacea, psoriasis, and eczema.
High Vitamin E level makes it useful for preventing scarring and stretch marks as well as for diminishing fine lines and wrinkles. Topical use of flaxseed oil allows the body to absorb some of the essential fatty acids required for healthy cellular activity. Flax oil can help soften skin and heal skin abrasions, reduce swelling and redness of lesions due to skin disease, as well as improve the overall health of the skin.

Good for Skin Types: All, especially Dry/Mature and Problem skin.
Chemical Analysis: Alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), unsaturated fatty acids (linolenic acid, linoleic acid, and oleic acid). Oleic is a monounsaturated fatty acid (MUFA).
Precautions: Avoid with known allergy or sensitivity to flaxseed, flaxseed oil, its parts, or any other members of the Linaceae plant family. Flaxseed oil is considered safe when taken by mouth in suggested doses for less than four months by healthy people, and is possibly safe when used for more than four months. It may lower blood sugar levels.
Use caution if you have diabetes or hypoglycemia, or are taking drugs, herbs, or supplements that affect blood sugar.
