Notes: Classed as a macerated or infused oil, where the plant material is infused in oil, and the botanical material then removed, leaving the oil with some of the properties of the botanical material. It is expensive, blend a 10% dilution of calendula oil with another carrier oil.

  • Absorption/Feel: This greatly depends on the type of oil used to infuse the calendula flowers.

Action: Anti-inflammatory, vulnerary, emollient, moisturizing, antifungal, antispasmodic, ciruculatory stimulant, choleretic, mildly diaphoretic, antihemorrhagic, emmenagogue, astringent

Benefits: Calendula is excellent for help with stubborn wounds, abrasions, fungal infections, scars, inflammation, ulcers, bed sores, psoriasis, acne, bruises, rashes, and eczema. It is also very effective for sore, inflamed and itchy skin conditions, burns, diaper rash, and sore, cracked nipples.

Calendula is often used to effectively treat thread (spider) veins and varicose veins and also helps to regenerate tissue and stimulate circulation. This oil helps to balance excessively oily skin. Internally it is used for gastric and duodenal ulcers, indigestion, gallbladder complaints, amenorrhea and dysmenorrhea.

Chemical Analysis: At least eight bioactive triterpendiol monoesters have been identified in the extracts of dried calendula flowers: faradiol-3-O-palmitate, faradiol-3-O-myristate, faradiol-3-O-laurate, arnidiol-3-O-palmitate, arnidiol-3-O-myristate, arnidiol-3-O-laurate, calenduladiol-3-O-palmitate, calenduladiol-3-O-myristate

Precautions: Should not be used by anyone who has an allergy to ragweed.
