Action: Strongly anti-infectious, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, carminative, antifungal, antiviral, antiparasitic, immunostimulant, general tonic, antioxidant, stimulant.

Benefits, Indications: Acute pain, sluggish nervous and circulatory systems. Due to its high phenol content, mountain savory is a very strong antiseptic and has been used to hasten the formation of scabs and to help with abscesses, burns and cuts. It is also known to stimulate the adrenal gland.

Recent research suggests that the extract may have anti-HIV activity. Mountain savory rates very highly as an antioxidant. Antioxidants are said to reduce the risk of age-related conditions, inhibit the growth of microbes, and possibly reduce cancer risks.

Mountain savory also rates very highly when tested against a wide variety of microbes, including fungal, bacterial, and viral strains. This oil should be considered for use with abscesses, athlete’s foot, colds, coughs, gingivitis, and any type of infection. It is a good choice when a circulatory stimulant or warming oil is needed.

Though not often used alone for this purpose mountain savory, added to an essential oil blend, is useful for arthritis, muscle soreness, bruising, and scarring of body tissues. Mountain savory is sometimes used for insect bites and bee stings.

Chemical Constituents: Carvcarol, Thymol, p-cymene, y-terpineol, 1,8-cineole, borneol, a-terpineol

Companion Oils: Lavender, pine, rosemary, peppermint, spearmint, citrus oils

Precautions: If used topically, always dilute; possible skin irritant. Avoid while pregnant.
